Class 1 (Year 1) - Miss Ash
Welcome to Class 1. Miss Ash will be the class teacher with Mrs Harrison working as a teacher across key stage 1. The Teaching Assistant linked to class 1 is Miss Hann.
During the first part of the autumn term, we will be working to catch up on some of the EYFS curriculum that was missed during the school closure. This means that we will be using some of the child-initiated, learning through play principles which are an important stepping stone in children being ready to access a more formalised Year 1 curriculum. We will review this at the end of the half term, before making a decision to move to more formal teaching methods.
In June 2021, your child will take a phonics screening check. This is a national benchmark which informs us whether or not your child is reading to age related expectations. Throughout the year, we will be focusing on developing your child’s phonics’ skills so that they become confident and fluent readers, and so that they will be well prepared for their screening check.
Should you have any questions, then Miss Ash and Mrs Harrison will be available on the playground either before or after school.
We look forward to welcoming you into year 1 in September. We hope you are ready and excited to start your adventure in year 1!
